C-U Marathon

The marathon weather was great but I didn't enjoy all of the winding turns on the course. It was also a bit rolling but not too bad. I made a fatal error (I was an "idiot" according to Tony) by making a race day change without first experimenting on a training run. I put my orthotics under my insoles instead of on top like I usually wear them. Actualy, I did try this on a 7 mile training run without too much issue. So, what the hell, maybe it would work for another 19.2 miles and 3 additional hours of pounding.

I should have stopped after several miles into the race when my feet were saying "ouch" and corrected my mistake Yeah right, I didn't listen. That is, until mile 24. My heels began howling quite loudly. So loudly in fact, that I had to walk just to hear myself think. Think about how stupid I was for changing my orthotic set up on race day. Maybe Tony had something with this "idiot" thing after all.

Well, I thought about alot of things during those last, long, laborious 2.2. miles that took me 35 minutes to complete. Hmmmm, "Don't do anything new on race day," "Stick with your plan," Listen to your body," Well, yet again I have learned another lesson from the marathon. I thought I had learned it all by now....
